사랑하는 그리스도 안에서의 동역자 여러분께,
우리 주님의 평화가 여러분과 함께하시기를 기도합니다.
미국성공회를 대표하여, 최근 한국에서 발생한 정치적 혼란과 그 가운데 나타난 하나님의 정의와 평화를 향한 여러분의 신실한 호소에 응답하며, 대림절의 인사를 드립니다. 또한 여러분과 교회의 성도들을 위한 저희의 지속적인 기도와 지지를 전합니다.
대한성공회의 성명서와 한국기독교교회협의회 회원들의 사역에 깊이 공감하며, 한국의 민주주의 회복과 평화를 위한 여러분의 헌신과 노력에 함께합니다. 전 세계 에큐메니컬 동반자들과 함께 하나님의 정의와 사랑을 증거하며, 평화와 화해의 길을 열어가고자 하는 여러분의 여정에 동참하고 있습니다.

Statement of Bishops of the Anglican Church of Korea On the State of Emergency Declared on December 3, 2024
Human dignity and fundamental rights are sacred gifts from our Creator and must never be compromised. Through its bishops, the Anglican Church of Korea expresses deep concern and sorrow over the state of emergency declared on December 3, 2024. While this declaration was annulled within six hours by a resolution of the National Assembly, it seriously violated God-given rights and undermined the foundations of democracy.
The state of emergency was declared not in response to a war or a national crisis but during a time of peace, bypassing constitutional procedures. Even though the parliament promptly rescinded it, this incident undermined the principles of the rule of law and democracy. It infringed upon fundamental freedoms, including the rights to expression and assembly, and significantly damaged public trust.
Such actions also pose risks to the well-being of everyday citizens. Economic instability and the erosion of national credibility have already begun to affect the lives of our neighbours and fellow citizens. The Church cannot ignore this suffering.
Instead, we stand in solidarity, committed to healing and overcoming these challenges together.
As Christians, we affirm that God created all people in the image of God. No policy or decision should ever violate human dignity or fundamental freedoms. In this spirit, we make the following appeals:
1. The legislative and judicial branches must thoroughly investigate the president’s unconstitutional actions and those responsible for this incident. They must take decisive measures to ensure accountability, prevent the recurrence of such events, protect the people’s fundamental rights, and restore democratic order.
2. President Yoon Suk-Yeol must take responsibility for violating the Constitution and infringing upon the people’s fundamental rights by stepping down immediately. The executive branch must reflect deeply, restore public trust, and commit to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law. Do not repeat acts that threaten fundamental rights or incite public unrest.
3. We call on all citizens to assert their rights peacefully and pray and act together to create a just and harmonious society.
This incident calls us to reaffirm our mission as a Church to uphold God’s justice and love. We believe the Lord will establish justice and bring peace to our nation. We pray earnestly for the courage and wisdom to overcome this crisis and work toward a society where human dignity and freedom are upheld and respected.
